This time in 1937, the Cornell golf team won its third straight match, playing against Colgate, with a score of 5-4. Prior to this victory, the Big Red had also defeated Haverford and Williams in succession. Charles Willcox, Mike Sulla, and Frank McAleavey lead the way with low scores.

In the first foursome, Willcox, the Cornell captain, won his match two-up and one, and the Raiders’ Fay defeated Reimers two-up and one. In addition, the best ball was awarded to the Big Red. In the second foursome, Sulla of Cornell defeated Horn of Colgate one-up, and Adamson of the Raiders took Smith two-up and one. The best ball in this group went to Colgate.

As indicated by the match play scores, this was a tight, well-fought victory for the Big Red. Every match was a toss-up, with the wins seeming to alternate between Cornell and Colgate. Before the golfers began their season, the team also had matches with the Ithaca Country Club and Syracuse. With these tough experiences under their belts, Coach Hall possessed a strong team that was well-prepared to begin its play against league opponents.
